Art in empty spaces initiative

Thank you to Otley BID for selecting my work to feature in their ‘Art In Empty Spaces’ initiative. Some of my landscape paintings have been reproduced and placed in the windows of temporarily empty town centre shops. They will be relocated wherever needed so catch them when you can! Julia

Leeds Urban Project : Ideal Standard Factory

For the first subject in my ongoing ‘Leeds Urban Project’ local knowledge inspired me to investigate the Ideal Standard factory in Otley. I had no idea, the day I rang the reception bell on the spur of the moment and asked to look at their chimney, what I would encounter. But, I am very pleased I did. Armitage Shanks was absorbed by Ideal Standard in the 90’s and they continue to make sanitary fittings to date. They injection mould sanitary plastics and assemble various bathroom kits (Toilet seats etc) for us to install at home. Although Ideal Standard own many […]

The Northumbria castles project

Northumberland, where fairy tales began. I decided I’d take a trip north during summer 2014 to take a look at the Northumberland Heritage Coast. It was one of the most inspiring trips I have ever made. The coastline between Warkworth and Berwick Upon Tweed contains numerous castles, four conservation areas and three national nature reserves. It was so awe inspiring that, at times, it was hard to believe this beauty really did exist right here in England.

I am secretly pleased to have been asked to select a ‘peoples choice’ for the 2013 Mercer Art Gallery summer exhibition. As the current biannual winner I was asked if I could make a selection. Knowing that the gallery secretly holds two Christopher Woods in their collection of course I requested them!
