Garnetts Paper Mill stands right on the edge of the river Wharfe in Otley.  Only a stones throw from my house. This view is taken from Wharfemeadows Park. The mill has stood for over 270 years supplying Otley, and local areas, with paper. Otley was built on the paper and printing industries. The weir was probably built to supply the mill with water, for use in paper production. Unfortunately, the factory was closed and production moved to India. Plans are now afoot to redevelop the area with offices and residential housing… So catch this view while you can! Proposals for the new, and ghastly, ‘revamp’ development can be viewed here
